Buyer guide / machine choice

How to Choose a 5 Gallon Water Filling Machine

Choose the machine by defining the bottle, the process it needs before filling, the saleable output and the interfaces around it. A model number should be the result of those decisions, not the starting point.

Decision summary

Use this page when the decision matches your project

Choose the machine by defining the bottle, the process it needs before filling, the saleable output and the interfaces around it. A model number should be the result of those decisions, not the starting point.

Suitable for
  • First-time equipment buyers
  • Plants replacing semi-automatic equipment
  • Purchasing teams building a request for quotation
Not suitable for
  • Selecting from price alone
  • Using small-bottle assumptions
  • Accepting unverified output or hygiene claims
Required inputs
  • Bottle and cap samples
  • Returnable or one-way path
  • Daily demand and shifts
  • Factory utilities and desired automation
01

Start with the bottle path

Determine whether bottles return from customers or arrive new. Returned bottles create inspection, decapping, external cleaning, internal washing, rejection and fleet-management work. One-way bottles simplify that route but require reliable packaging supply.

  • 18.9L, 20L or another size
  • Bottle material and dimensions
  • Returnable or one-way
  • Neck and cap
  • Normal bottle condition
02

Convert demand into saleable BPH

Use current daily delivery, peak season, net operating hours and a transparent efficiency assumption. Then check whether bottle preparation, cap handling and finished-bottle packaging can support the same rate.

  • Daily saleable bottles
  • Net production hours
  • Efficiency and cleaning
  • Growth reserve
  • Line balance
03

Define the required modules

List core washing, filling and capping functions, then add only the modules justified by bottle condition, labor and distribution: decapper, external brushing, inspection, leak testing, loading, bagging, racks or palletizing.

  • Problem each module solves
  • When it can be omitted
  • Labor impact
  • Space and utility impact
  • Second-phase option
04

Compare evidence, not adjectives

Require a scope drawing, utility schedule, sample approval, FAT plan, documents and service terms. Avoid offers built around generic quality claims without a defined bottle, process and acceptance basis.

  • Bottle/cap basis
  • Inclusions and exclusions
  • Reference versus confirmed data
  • FAT method
  • Installation responsibility
Q / INPUT

Information needed for a quote

Send the bottle and cap basis, required BPH, bottle path, factory and utility information, destination and any module or support requirement. Unknown items can remain marked “to be confirmed.”

FAQ

Short answers, visible boundaries

Project-specific output, hygiene, utilities and service terms belong in the confirmed technical proposal.

What is the first question to ask a supplier?

Ask how the proposed process changes for your actual returnable or one-way bottle and cap.

Should I buy for maximum future output?

Balance growth with current route demand, cash, bottle fleet, utilities, storage and operator capability.

How many suppliers should I compare?

The number matters less than issuing one common requirement and comparing technically equivalent responses.
